Susan Martin, Interim President of San Jose State University Discusses Dedication and Workforce of SJSU Students
San José State University is a major, comprehensive public university located in the center of San José and in the heart of Silicon Valley. SJSU is more than its students, faculty and staff. The university’s campus is an anchor for downtown San Jose and one of the Bay Area’s largest institutions of higher education, with nearly 200,000 living alumni who power Silicon Valley and beyond. We are excited to have Interim President of SJSU, Susan Martin on today’s show. Tune in from 3-4pm PST on AM 1220 KDOW to listen, learn & join the discussion. You can also listen streaming online at www.reradiolive.com, and TEXT you questions to 408.838.9060 during the show!
Martin came from Michigan, where she was the President at Eastern Michigan University for 7 years. Under her leadership, the campus sought creative ways to serve minority students. Its “Students of Color Degree Completion and Retention Plan,” considered by many as a model for supporting the unique needs of underrepresented students, was recognized by the Obama administration as a model for innovation. Martin actively maintained personal relationships with student leaders, including those engaged in initiatives to support underrepresented students.
Host Joe Cucchiara will discuss what Martin has noticed in San Jose as compared to Michigan with “fresh eyes.” Other topics to be discussed are tuition, investment in higher education, challenges in higher education, and the presidential transition on July 1st to President Mary Papazian.
